Workspace name > Customize Slack > Add Custom Emoji. Drop in your PNG, give it a name like :rocket-launch:, and it's available to your whole team.
That's it. From idea to icon in under a minute.

Slack's custom emoji are one of the few design surfaces every team member uses daily. A coherent set is small but high-impact for team culture.
Slack accepts up to 128px and downsizes the rest. Generating at the target size avoids compression artifacts and keeps the file under Slack's 64KB limit.
Slack's emoji picker has both light and dark modes, plus user-customized themes. Non-transparent backgrounds will look like square stamps against any theme but the one you designed for.
Emoji appear as 22px in messages and 64px in reactions. If your icon has fine detail it'll mush at those sizes. Simplify until the icon reads at thumbnail size.
Workspace name > Customize Slack > Add Custom Emoji. Drag your PNG, type the name (no spaces, no colons), Save. Available immediately to everyone.
Use prefixes like :team-rocket:, :team-fire:, :team-celebrate:. The prefix makes your custom set easy to find in the picker and signals which emoji are team-made vs. defaults.
Generate themed sets for launches, holidays, or company events. Custom emoji are one of the easiest ways to mark a moment in your team's culture.
Custom Slack emoji started as a joke and ended up as one of the most-used surfaces in modern teamwork. A reaction emoji on a message conveys agreement, acknowledgment, or tone faster than a written reply. Custom emoji extend that vocabulary to whatever language your team needs - inside jokes, project markers, mood signals, status indicators.
Most teams accumulate custom emoji haphazardly - someone uploads a screenshot, someone else uploads a meme. The result is a picker full of one-off emoji that no one quite remembers the meaning of. A custom emoji set designed deliberately - cohesive style, clear themes, shared vocabulary - becomes part of how the team communicates.
Engineering teams that take this seriously build hundreds of custom emoji that operate as a shared visual language. New employees learn the emoji vocabulary as part of onboarding. Reactions stop being decorative and start being functional.
Pixelle makes it easy to generate a cohesive emoji set in your team's voice. You can match your brand aesthetic, reference your products, or build a themed pack for a specific channel or project. Upload once, and your team has a new shared vocabulary for the next thousand conversations.
